Beauty And Utility
More on the mandir

In the morning I call my mom in Perth, Australia. She is surprised and excited to get a call from me, and glad to hear that I am safe. She is happy for me, now that I'm "doing what you really want to do."

She is a little nervous about me being in India, what with our proximity to Pakistan, and about me flying to Russia if it entails flying anywhere near Iraq. She prays for me every day. Moms...

In the late afternoon, Srila Gurudeva goes up onto the roof of his quarters to inspect the progress of Sri Anu Giriraj Mandir.

He is pleased with the progress, and says that tomorrow the workers will finish marbleizing the first (front) dome of the mandir, which is shaped like the dome of Srila Rupa Goswami's samadhi. "When we look at the dome we can remember Srila Rupa Goswami."

"Marbleizing the dome" consists of adding a plaster coat of white marble chips, white marble dust, and white cement to the surface of the dome. Since the plaster of the dome is intrinsically white, it will therefore never need painting. Srila Gurudeva's design is not only beautiful, but it has some practical utility as well.

That evening, two more Russian devotees take a taxi to Delhi, to return to Moscow.
